A PRESTIGIOUS FINE ARTS PRIZE FOR KOJIMA
Within the ministry, it is the Agency for Cultural Affairs that awards this Fine Arts prize in eleven different categories : theatre, cinema, music, dance, literature, visual arts, television, the development of the arts, the arts of criticism and media arts (including video games). Presented since 1950 , these awards have gained some prestige over time, with the media arts category being the last to be added in 2008 . becomes the second video game actor to receive this award after Shigeru Miyamoto in 2010.

The committee choosing the winners explained Kojima's choice primarily because Death Stranding touched them.
