Las marcas comerciales de Pokémon Sol y Pokémon Luna fueron registradas filtrando así los próximos títulos de juegos de Pokémon al público. Pokémon.com confirmó que los juegos serían para la Nintendo 3DS y se lanzarían en las vacaciones de 2016, con un nuevo mundo, nuevos Pokémon y nuevas aventuras.Pokémon Sol y Pokémon Luna serán los primeros juegos de la serie Pokémon que permitirán a los jugadores elegir entre nueve idiomas para jugar. Además del inglés, francés, alemán, italiano, japonés, coreano y español, los jugadores podrán jugar en chino tradicional y simplificado.
