Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is a narratively driven, single-player game puts you in the role of a Jedi Padawan who narrowly escaped the purge of Order 66 following the events of Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. On a quest to rebuild the Jedi Order, you must pick up the pieces of your shattered past to complete your training, develop new powerful Force abilities and master the art of the iconic lightsaber - all while staying one step ahead of the Empire and its deadly Inquisitors.

Star Wars Jedi Survivor: EA explains why the game is not coming out on PS4/One

During the Star Wars Celebration we were able to discover the Star Wars Jedi Survivor trailer. But we were also able to learn that the game was not coming out on PS4 and Xbox One.

The next adventure of the jedi Cal Kestis is now official thanks to a very first trailer in CGI. Bad news however, the Star Wars game will not be released on old gen (PS4 and Xbox One). EA wanted to communicate on this subject to make things clear.

Star Wars says goodbye to the Old Gen

Stig Asmussen, director of the game has indeed spoken to justify this choice to release the game only on "Current Gen" (PS5 and Xbox Series):

So I think the biggest thing is ray tracing, or lighting. It allows us to do real-time lighting, all the time, with a fidelity that far exceeds anything we've produced before. As it's real time, we can see the changes as we adjust the lights - immediately, essentially. Which means we have more time to tweak more and get results with a more cinematic dimension.

Also, the new consoles are equipped with extremely fast hard drives that allow us to load tons of content very quickly. I've always worked on streaming games - games that don't have a loading screen. The fact that these consoles have such fast storage made things even easier. These are probably the two biggest benefits. The PlayStation 5 has a very interesting haptic system on its controller, which we are investigating, and the process is just easier in general.

These are indeed good reasons not to release the game on the current console generation. Releasing the game on PS4 and Xbox One would have been a logical brake. However, this choice is a double-edged sword since EA automatically cuts itself off from many PS4 owners. Especially in this curious time when it is still quite difficult to find a new console in stock.

This Star Wars game is expected for 2023 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series.
