For many months, Activision Blizzard has been sued for acts of discrimination and sexual harassment. The company was notably targeted by the American Commission for Equal Employment Opportunities (EEOC, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission). She then accused the publisher of having "favored a sexist policy which allows harassment and income inequalities to persist" . The two parties had agreed to settle this amicably and the transaction has just been validated by a judge.
An insufficient first victory
Last September, Activision Blizzard committed to buildingan $18 million fund to compensate the victims, provided the lawsuit is dropped. As reported by The Washington Post , Federal Judge Dale Fisher has approved this deal between the publisher and the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission . Victims in post during the period from September 1, 2016 to March 29, 2022 are eligible for compensation. On the other hand, the employees concerned are prohibited from suing Activision Blizzard for facts covered by the agreement.
The Fair Employment and Housing Department had opposed the settlement, arguing that a successful outcome would prejudice its lawsuit. The DFEH is indeed suing Activision Blizzard for "its inability to manage the problems of discrimination and sexual harassment" . Two problems arise. On the one hand, the amount estimated too low. On the other hand, victims who are part of the agreement with the EEOC cannot appear in the trial initiated by the DFEH.
