The Witcher

The game begins when Geralt of Rivia, one of a few remaining "witchers" – traveling monster hunters for hire, gifted with unnatural powers, is transported to the witcher stronghold of Kaer Morhen by fellow witchers who had discovered him unconscious in a field. Geralt remembers almost nothing of his life before that point. He is taken to Kaer Morhen, the base of the witchers, where he meets a sorceress named Triss Merigold. The castle is attacked by a gang of bandits named Salamandra, led by a criminal known as the Professor, a mage named Savolla who controls a large, praying mantis-like monster, and another mage named Azar Javed. The witchers and the sorceress manage to slay the monster and kill Savolla, but the Professor and Azar manage to escape with the mutagens that genetically alter the witchers. After curing Triss of the wounds she received while fighting Javed, Geralt and the rest of the witchers head off in different directions in order to find information on Salamandra.

The Witcher: first information on the new game

Previously rumoured, the development of a new The Witcher game has just been officially confirmed by CD Projekt RED.

After Cyberpunk 2077 and its upcoming expansion, the Polish studio will therefore return to the world of Geralt de Riv with “ a new saga ” and… a new engine!

The School of the Wolf is recruiting

For the moment, little information to put under the fangs concerning this new opus in the legendary action-RPG franchise of The Witcher . We must therefore content ourselves with the mention of a new saga in the open world, which will therefore probably take place without our dear white-haired witcher as the main character.

On a technical level, however, CD Projekt RED has indicated that it wants to change the engine for this new adventure. Exiting its in-house REDengine engine, the Polish studio is embarking on a partnership with Epic Games to adapt the impressive Unreal Engine 5 to open-world experiences.

The two entities are therefore entering into a new long-term partnership, since the announcement of this new game mentions future versions of the Unreal Engine, if applicable. CD Projekt RED, however, wanted to clarify that its REDengine engine will still be used for the upcoming expansion of Cyberpunk 2077 , in the more or less near future, and that this new The Witcher game will not be exclusive to the Epic Games Store . .

For now, that's all we know about this new entry in The Witcher saga . We bet that a lot of time will pass before knowing more. The development of Cyberpunk 2077 is indeed far from over, and the Polish studio probably does not intend to repeat the mistakes of the past with too early communication.
